This is Ella, she is a MISTY RIDGE PUP!! She is at her new home in California and has already taught her new owners how to bring in the news paper. All of the Misty Ridge puppies are very intelligent at their young age. Ella is only 12 weeks old in this photo and see how smart she is!!

Hi Joyce,
As we remember it... : a requisite for having a "Misty Ridge GSD" (according to Joyce) is to, on a daily basis, provide them with sufficient intellectual and physical challenges.
Well, where do we go from here? Have a nice weekend!
Ok, so they go to world class museums. Who says it's a dog's life, like a dog's life is something bad. Heck, it sounds like a good life to me.

Joyce,
Here are a couple of pictures of Leia (Falco/Meika born 1/1/04). She was almost 8 months old in the group picture (of all my kids - she is in front of my daughter) and 9 months old in the picture with the chickens helping me gather eggs. She is fantastic, you were right she can do anything I ask of her. She is a quick and eager learner. I am so glad I got her.
Thanks so much -- hope you like the pictures.

Today our best friend and devoted companion passed away in his sleep. He was eleven and a half years old and his origins were Misty Ridge. His sire was Boris Vom Haus Fokwulfe and his dam was Echo of Misty Ridge. His registered name was Wilhelm of Waterbrooks. I have had German Shepherds all of my life, and I have loved them all, but Willie was truly something special. He posessed all of the traits you describe on your web site and it is a credit to you and your facility that such wonderful dogs exist. He received compliments on his good looks as recently as last week. My husband and I live in Florida and will be visiting relatives in Maryland in two weeks, and we are thinking of visiting Misty Ridge, if for no other reason than to see the origins of our beautiful Willie.
Thank you for the fine work you do with these most magnificent creatures and thank you so much for your part in bringing Wilie into our lives.
Sincerely,
Linda and Warren Witz

A Misty Ridge customer, sent us an e-mail containing the following exchange from a working dog discussion board.
The first person wrote, "Keep letting us know the bloodlines that work for you."
A lady in California responded, "I had posted earlier that I saw a super high line dog working up there too, with FEMA. Son of Jaeger vom Fuestenberg SchH3,a Henning von Noort son. She purchased him from Misty Ridge kennels in Maryland. Nice retrieve/hunt drive. Solid dog. He has been deployed in Narobi,Turkey,Taiwan and the Pentagon on Sept. 11".
The customer who sent the exchange to us wrote, "Thought you might be interested. Sonja Heritages' Otto is still working hard and giving you the good reputation that is deserved. Thanks again for the great working dog and friend."
All these people are talking about Otto, pictured above with his owner, trainer and handler, Sonja Heritage of Bowie. The Oklahoma City bombing affected Sonja, motivating her to be able to do something should such a situation occur again.
"It tore me up to watch Oklahoma City and not be able to do anything." Sonja did research and found out "who bred the best German Shepherds. I found breeder Joyce Burdette and ordered a puppy." While waiting for Otto, Sonja attended Prince George's Community College to train as an emergency medical technitian.
It took two years to train Otto to be able to find humans, alive or dead, in wilderness, rubble or water. In addition to serving in Narobi, Turkey Taiwan and the Pentagon, Otto and Sonja participate in many local searches for missing children, Alzheimer's sufferers, drownings and they work with the D.C. Metropolitan police in evidence searches. It takes a special dog to handle all the work and still maintain a solid friendly disposition.
Photo at left: Otto humbly accepts the praise and thanks from Turkish children for his work, conducted in hot humid 100 degree conditions. Otto received IV's every day to insure the exhausting work did not leave him dehydrated.
Hi Joyce,
Just wanted to let you know how much we are loving our new addition "Quila" . We recently heard a song called Tequila Frenzy and she definitely is "all that". I never thought I could love another dog as much as I did Margee who passed away in Oct. but Quila has definitely proved me wrong. She is full of spunk and much, much affection. Also, she is quite the beauty. We are truly enjoying her so much. The weather has indeed been a challenge but with spring in the air we'll be outside in grass real soon.
Again, thank you for helping us and for bringing Quila into our lives, she indeed makes it very, very happy for us to come home.
Love, Diane, Tommy and Quila Roland
P.S. The new puppies are all so cute; wish we could get some more!!!

This is Ana, a Misty Ridge female out of Sammy and Eika with her owner/trainer/handler Molly Brunner. Ana was a year old in this picture and Molly was preparing her for her 'B' title, the first step in her training process. Since then Molly and Ana got their "B'" and her SchH 1 Title.Molly is an experienced trainer, working with her second dog in Schutzhund. She is a great dog handler/trainer, excelling in the tracking phase. Most important, she loves her dog.
UPDATE! Congratulations to Molly and Ana on receiving the SchH3 Title. We are very proud of their accomplishment.
These are two pictures we thought everyone would enjoy, they speak to the disposition of Joyce's dogs.
This is Lynne with Taylor. Lynne would like to share about her great dog from Misty Ridge. Taylor is trained as a medical alert Service Dog. She passed her access test with flying colors. Lynne takes Taylor with her where ever she goes knowing the tremendous comfort of all her capabilities. Lynne and Taylor also belong to a club and she has two nursing homes they visit. The residents are delighted to see her come and it really brightens their day. Lynne is very proud of her girl and has every right to be! Great job to the both of you.
Just wanted to let you know that Gunner is doing just great with his new family. I remember asking you if you ever had any problems with your puppies ears and you told me you couldn't remember that last time you had to tape a puppy. Well just take a look at the head on this beautiful puppy. He just turned 11 weeks and his ears have been like this for the last 2 weeks. The whole neighborhood marvels at what a great looking puppy he is!! Thanks, The Hoffmans
Just wanted you to see how beautiful Abby (Dad Falco and Mom Kayla) turned out. Our son now 11 and Abby who will be 2 next month, are inseparable. They are the best of friends and she loves him so much. We visit your website often and just think your dogs are the best ever. Thank you again so much for Abby, she is the greatest!
What a Gentle Giant! Have you ever seen such love and devotion? This Misty Ridge pup is truly the love of their lives.

This photoshows that Misty Ridge pups are rising to a whole new level! The ride home yesterday was fine with the puppy. Scott was all to happy to ride with the puppy on the plane. (good thing his new lady love is her - or I'd be jealous) Her name is Duchess Hunter von der Misty Ridge. Duchess for she is very royal, regal and confident, Hunter for it was the Hunter full moon yesterday. We just LOVE her and the transition was very smooth. The kids are out of their mind about her. Thank you again for such a fine new number of the family.
Here is a recent picture of Duchess. Her coloration is beautiful and she has the most amazing temperament. She is just a pure joy and she just LOVES the snow...hardly can get her in and forget it when the kids sled. Also have noticed she is keenly observant to planes and birds in the sky and I feel for the deer in our woods. She knows their every move and is quite good at flushing them out.

Talk about lying in the lap of luxury, these "3" Misty Ridge pups have it made in the shade! Assumpta, Barnabus, and Benedict also love to come back and visit for rest here at the resort when mom goes away. We always love to see them return.
Here is Zues and Zoe!
They get along great!
Thank, Thank you again. Looking forward to working with you!
You were right! Zoe is cute but Zues is definitely my boy!
